The Dos and Don'ts of Exiting Your Wyndham Timeshare

How can an owner achieve a Wyndham certified exit from their Wyndham timeshare? Wyndham Vacation Ownership has been developing, selling, and managing timeshares for decades, and with more than 900,000 timeshare owners under its umbrella, it stands to reason that at some point Wyndham timeshare owners will be looking to exit their timeshare. So, how does one do so responsibly?

Helping Owners Sell Their Timeshares

Fortunately for owners looking to cancel Wyndham timeshare, Wyndham has been at the forefront of companies that understand the need for owners to eventually move on from their ownership. Wyndham has been working with third-party companies since 2015 to establish a responsible exit pathway, using Wyndham Owner Services as a way to transition owners to companies that can help them sell their timeshare.

However, there are a few things to be aware of when looking for a certified exit by Wyndham, so let’s examine the do's and don’ts so you can get to a successful exit.

Wyndham Certified Exit – The Don’ts

Because the timeshare exit industry can be a volatile space, let’s first look at how you can protect yourself from operators that may not have your best interest in mind:

  • Don’t Pay an Upfront Fee. Being asked to pay an upfront fee is one of the red flags you shouldn’t ignore. Resale companies almost always want an upfront fee; however, Sell a Timeshare offers an automated, self-service system with no upfront fees, proving it can be done! So look for a way you can promote your timeshare without the need to pay in advance.

  • Don’t Take Cold Calls. Rogue resale companies are known to contact Wyndham owners out of the blue, claiming to have a buyer waiting to purchase your timeshare – for a fee of course. Don’t take these types of calls if you have not contacted the company first.

  • Don’t Stop Paying Your Annual Fees. It is very important to remain up to date on any and all payments to Wyndham. Exit companies often advise you to stop paying fees, but that can lead to involvement by collection agencies and damage your credit history.

  • Don’t Use an Exit Company. Exit companies charge anywhere from $5,000 to $10,000 upfront on the promise they can cancel Wyndham timeshare ownership. No one can authorize a cancelation except Wyndham.

Wyndham Certified Exit – The Do’s

Now that you know what not to do, let’s look at some solutions to help with a Wyndham certified exit:

  • Do Pay Off Any Mortgages. Any liens attached to timeshare ownership can slow down the process, so pay off any loans to make it easier to exit your timeshare.

  • Do Stay in Communication with Wyndham. You will want to maintain a good relationship with Wyndham since they are the ones who will ultimately approve any exit or sale. Exit companies may recommend ignoring calls and correspondence from Wyndham, but doing so is not a good move.

  • Do Choose to Sell. In the vast majority of cases, a choice to exit or cancel Wyndham timeshare ownership means walking away with nothing to show for it. Choose to sell your Wyndham timeshare and likely make money back from your original purchase.

  • Do Use a Reputable Resale Provider. Look for a resale provider that has years of experience in the timeshare resale marketplace to help you sell your Wydham timeshare the right way.

Work With a Wyndham Featured Reseller to Sell Your Timeshare

The professionals behind Sell a Timeshare have more than 20 years of experience in the timeshare resale industry. Among our strengths are the industry relationships and partnerships we have built over the years, and one of those is our relationship with timeshare resale brokerage company Timeshare Broker Associates (TBA).

TBA is an official Featured Resale Provider for Wyndham, with direct connections to the company and the ability to help facilitate a responsible exit from your Wyndham timeshare. Because there are no upfront fees for sellers, we build the bridge for a streamlined referral process.

What is Wyndham Cares?

Wyndham Owner Services oversees a program called Wyndham Cares, which is a customer service program designed to answer owner questions regarding the timeshare resale market. Wyndham Cares also manages a program called Certified Exit by Wyndham, providing advice for exiting ownership.

With Certified Exit by Wyndham, there are avenues to be met when Wyndham considers exiting owners:

  • Paid in Full – the ownership needs to be free of loans attached to the timeshare or points

  • Medical Hardship – owners can apply for a hardship exception

  • Financial Hardship – owners can make their case based on financial difficulties

Wyndham will assess requests on a case-by-case basis but there are no guarantees that exit requests will be granted, as this is ultimately a business decision.

Also – keep in mind that these options primarily involve giving ownership back to Wyndham, which means no financial compensation for the owner. By choosing to sell your timeshare on the resale market, you can at least get some money back for your timeshare or points.

How Can Sell a Timeshare Help?

When you create an ad on SellaTimeshare.com to sell your Wyndham timeshare or points package, we alert Timeshare Broker Associates of your desire to sell. In this case, TBA licensed agents can contact you and get busy working to sell your timeshare without the delays and red tape that can often occur with referrals.

Your advertisement will remain on SellaTimeshare.com and other websites in our marketing network, but you will also have a TBA agent actively working on your behalf to find a buyer and close a sale.
