With all of the information overload online, it’s no wonder that owners are asking themselves “can I sell my Wyndham points?” The simple answer is yes, you can sell your Wyndham points, but the ownership details should be confirmed before you begin the process.
The program you are a part of, whether your Wyndham points are deeded or non-deeded, or if you have a loan on your ownership, are just a couple of the areas to address when you decide how to sell your Wyndham points.
Usually, assessing the resale asking price is top of mind for Wyndham points owners looking to sell, and we can help with that as well.
The question to answer isn’t really “can I sell my Wyndham points” but rather “how can I sell my Wyndham points?” You can sell your points, but what you own, how it is priced, and the entity you use to sell it plays a major part in successfully selling your Wyndham points.
First – what do you actually own?
There are a number of vacation ownership products that come under the Wyndham banner. Many are deeded, some are non-deeded and others are a mix of the two. Let’s take a look:
Club Wyndham Select – points are deeded to a specific home resort but can be used at any Club Wyndham resort.
Club Wyndham Access – a pure points, non-deeded ownership where points are held in Trust and can be used at any Club Wyndham resort.
Club Wyndham Kai – points are deeded to a specific Hawaii resort within the network, with bookings at the home resort and resorts within the Club Wyndham Plus Hawaii network.
Club Wyndham Prefer West – non-deeded points ownership where points can be used in an advance reservation window in the Club Wyndham Prefer West network.
Knowing which program your ownership falls under will guide how you sell your Wyndham points. If you have any questions, you can verify your ownership with your resort or call our affiliated brokerage company, Timeshare Broker Associates.
Once you have confirmed your ownership, take note of the essential details you need to convey to prospective buyers. These details can include:
Number of Points: Confirm the exact amount of points you want to sell. You may have purchased points in a single transaction or combined your points from several different purchases.
Usage: Is your ownership annual or biennial (every other year)? If biennial, is it even- or odd-year ownership?
Renewal Month: Do your points renew on January 1, April 1, July 1, or October 1? Be ready to answer that inquiry.
Season: Knowing the best season available will help consumers understand the weeks they can book for the number of points you want to sell. The higher the level, the better.
Club or Resort Promotion: For non-deeded points ownership, you would want to promote under the club profile such as Wyndham Club Access. For deeded points, promote them under the profile for specific resorts like Wyndham Bonnet Creek.
Type of Unit: For deeded points owners, if you can choose the number of bedrooms and bathrooms for a unit layout at your home resort, this option can help your unit be more desirable on the resale market. It can be tough to know what type of accommodation you can get with points, so give buyers an idea if you can.
Resale Price: If you need help with establishing a price for your points, use our market analysis tool.
In most cases, Wyndham points transfer on the resale market, regardless of whether they were purchased as a resale or directly from Wyndham. However, there are a few areas where points do not transfer:
Converted Points: Wyndham allows weeks owners to convert their week into points to be used within the Club Wyndham network. However, these points do not transfer on the resale market, so be aware that your ownership will revert back to its original week when selling as a Wyndham resale.
Shell Conversions: Wyndham points owners who converted from their Shell Vacations Club ownership cannot transfer their Wyndham points on the resale market. The ownership would revert to the original Shell ownership when putting it up for resale.
Wyndham Rewards: Some owners convert their points to Wyndham Rewards points to use within the Rewards system. Because Rewards is a hotel loyalty program, Rewards points don’t transfer as Club Wyndham points. As the owner, you would only be able to sell the original Wyndham points.
When choosing to sell Wyndham points, you’ll want the process to be as streamlined as possible. Here are a couple of areas that can delay the process.
Is Your Account in Good Standing? Because Wyndham ultimately approves all resales, you want to be on good terms so the closing process can proceed smoothly. If your account is in arrears because of unpaid maintenance fees or annual dues, these fees will need to be paid before the sale can go through.
Do You Owe Any Money? Are there any liens on the original purchase? Most resales proceed with the original ownership already paid in full. Depending on the amount owed, the lien could be paid out of the proceeds of the sale, but loans attached to the ownership can be a barrier.
By using the Sell a Timeshare self-service platform, Wyndham points owners can upload their ownership details and build an advertisement directly onto our network for worldwide exposure. But the secret sauce is our affiliation with Timeshare Broker Associates, a Wyndham Featured Reseller.
TBA is a licensed resale brokerage working directly with Wyndham to help owners wondering how to sell Wyndham points. Once you build your ad onto our platform, we alert TBA of your decision to sell and they can contact you to help find you a buyer. All with no upfront fees.
